Indian Government has stopped printing of Rs 2000 currency notes, says a report in The Print. The decision has been taken 2 years after Modi government, in a shocking move, announced demonetisation of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 denominations. That move was highly criticised by the Opposition which claimed that the move will further help money launderers and tax evaders.

The move was also criticised for poor planning and unfairness. It also met with protests, litigation, and strikes against the government across India.

The report further suggested the decision was taken on suspicion that the notes are being used for hoarding, tax evasion and money laundering. PM Narendra Modi announced demonetisation in November 2016, in an exercise to crack down black money. At that time, the citizens suffered huge cash shortage for months.
