Deepika Padukone on Pregnancy: It Will Happen When it Has to Happen
Deepika Padukone is currently celebrating the new year with hubby Ranveer Singh at an undisclosed location. Before she headed out of the country, Deepika gave an interview to an entertainment portal in which she talked about embracing motherhood and how to avoid the rumours of a pregnancy.
Deepika Padukone talked to Pinkvilla and said that it’s not justified to put a couple in that position where they feel pressurised by questions on having a baby. She said that she has heard motherhood is even greater a feeling than getting married, and she will discover that when she is ready to be a mother. Deepika said, “It will happen when it has to happen”, by adding, “Motherhood trumps being married. That’s what I hear from people who have had children. Of course, it will happen at some point but no, I think it is unfair to put women through that, to put a couple through that. I guess the day we stop asking the questions is when we will bring about change”.
She also talked about dealing with the rumours of a pregnancy. Deepika said that people today speculate a lot and start guessing from an actress’ appearance if she’s expecting or not, which is not right. She added that being a public figure even she will have to face these rumours at some point in life but she doesn’t feel troubled by all this. Deepika considers such speculations as parts and parcels of her job. She explained, “I don’t think there is anything to tackle honestly. As people in the public eye, you are anyways so used to constant speculation. Sometimes, things are true and people probably second guess or assume something even before you have said it yourself and sometimes, it’s absolutely untrue. That’s the nature of the business that we are in”.
Even Anushka Sharma said the same when she was asked to comment on the rumours of her pregnancy. Mentioning that every actress has to go through such rumours, she told Hindustan Times, “I feel every female actor goes through it, so people marry you off even before you are hitched and make you a mother before you are pregnant. I don’t pay attention to it, and just laugh these things off since I find them hilarious. When I read about such stuff, I think, ‘where do such absurd things come from?’ Right now, I’m literally working round-the-clock””.
