Are You An SBI Customer? Follow These Steps If Your A/c Is Wrongly Debited
Often we confront a situation wherein our bank account gets debited despite an unsuccessful transaction during money withdrawal at ATMs, or while making payment via point of sale at merchant retail outlets, or even during net banking transactions. And if you are a SBI bank customer, the bank’s website suggests a way out to get your wrongly debited money back into your account.
Process to follow after money is wrongly debited during unsuccessful transaction
On an immediate basis report the incident to SBI Contact Centre by making a call on its toll free numbers,1800 4253800 or 1800 112211. Against the lodged complaint, banking representative will provide you a complaint reference or ticket number using which you can track the status of your complaint. Also, the status of the complaint can be checked by sending an SMS to 567676 in the format “ATM ticket number” for eg: ATM PR429212345.
Further, in accordance with the website of SBI, the claim against the unsuccessful transaction has to be made in maximum 60 days from the transaction date.
Also, the claim as per the Reserve Bank of India guidelines has to be processed within seven working days of lodging the complaint i.e. the wrongly debited amount is credited to the account holder’s account in maximum 7 working days from the date the complaint is lodged.
What is the recourse if complaint for such a transaction is not made within 60 days?
As per the leading state-run lender, claim can still be made after 60 days to 120 days. The bank said, “The claim can be lodged after 60 days to 120 days from date of transaction in good faith. Credit will be provided to the customer account only after recovery acceptance from the acquiring bank”.
The bank further adds, “However as per NPCI guidelines, claims for failed ATM transactions done on other bank ATMs cannot be lodged after 120 days from date of transaction”.
